Concrete repair package on
a large bank in coastal town
Ram Services Limited was instructed to carry out a large complex concrete repair remedial project in the seaside town of Blackpool.
Working closely with the multi-national material manufacture and early contractor engagement, ensured the repairs were carried out in full accordance with BS EN1504.
Problem:
Accelerated concrete degradation due to:
- 60-year-old concrete with low cover to the existing steel reinforcement due to poor quality assurance control,
- the coastal micro-climate,
- the saline atmosphere, and
- atmospheric carbonation
Solution:
Once the structure was repaired back to a sound structure, extensive protective coating works were applied.
The works included:
- protection of the exposed steel reinforcement,
- cathodic protection,
- a range of concrete repair techniques, including: hand placed, pourable and spray concrete,
- class leading anti-carbonation coatings, were applied to the concrete façade,
- reinforced liquid applied membranes applied to the flat roof sections.
Additional Benefits to the Client:
Overall, the design life of the structure was extended considerably, and Ram Services Limited has continued to work closely with the facilities management organisation, delivering further concrete repair schemes to existing commercial buildings across the UK.
